Joshua Axe
Bio
Hello, my name is Joshua Axe. From a young age, I've always been intrigued in the art of movement. I spent my elementary school lunches swinging from the monkey bars and doing tricks off of the swingset. From a young age I've always dreamed of having a career with a physical element to it.
At the age of 5, I joined White Dragon Martial Arts and trained in the amazing and diverse martial art that is Choy Li Fut Kung Fu. Unbeknownst to me at the time, but this is where I would be spending the next 15 years of my life, honing my skills. Training in Kung Fu taught me a wide variety of lessons that go far beyond just the physical movements. I learned self confidence, discipline, and "martial spirit", which is a core value of the school. Martial spirit is the principle of continuing to push yourself even when you feel like giving up, and having this ideology instilled in me at a young age has certainly been invaluable to my overall growth.
In the last few years of my time with White Dragon I also had the privilege of becoming an instructor and passing the knowledge of Kung Fu to others. Having to teach others certainly made me a better martial artist myself, as having to convey the concepts of self defense to others solidified those ideas in my head. There were many times that my students would ask me a question that I didn't have an immediate answer to, but by working through the problem in my head, it would lead to both of us having the answer. Unfortunately, my White Dragon branch closed in 2021, mostly due to complications from Covid. I will forever be grateful for my time there, and to my Sifu, for teaching me so many valuable lessons about self defense and life.
“Mastering others is strength. Mastering yourself is true power.”
